Tree identification

linden; linde; Tilia

Heart shaped leaves. Serrated. Sometimes more round!
Bracts (modified leaf). Flowers from June to July.

elm; iep; Ulmus

Short petiole (leaf stem), asymmetrical base, oval shape, serrated.
Seeds look like this.
Seeds in a big ol' bunch! Light green to light brown.

plane tree; plataan; Platanus

Leaves alternate on branch. 3 to 5 lobes.
Bark peels in patches.
Fruit looks like prickly balls.

alder; els; Alnus

The species have differently shaped leaves. Left to right: x spaethii, cordata, glutinosa.
Female catkins (top), male catkins (bottom).
Mature "cones".

horse chestnut; paardenkastanje; Aesculus

5-7 leaves in a palmate.
Flower candle.
Green spike outer shell on seeds.
The seed inside looked like this. NOT edible!

maple; esdoorn; Acer

Pairs of leaves with long petioles. 5-7 lobes.
Pairs of helicopter seeds.
