Me looking at a tree

I once asked a tree:
"Who are you?"

And found out they were a Canadian poplar (Populus x canadensis), my neighbour, and housed a family of great spotted woodpeckers.

In the past few years I've learnt a lot about nature, and I want to share that info with you!

Walk with me to meet the trees

On this 90 minute walk we will get to know the six common street trees in the inner city of Delft and learn to identify them from their features.

Learn about the trees yourself

A map showing the six common trees of Delft and areas where they are located.

You can use it and the resources listed to gain familiarity with trees in your daily life.

About me

After reading A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin in 2019, I felt an immense urge to learn the names of things. It started small, with the names of spring flowers: crocus, speedwell, red deadnettle. Then spread into other branches of the taxonomic tree.

As someone who grew up in an urban environment, Nature wasn’t something I knew how to find. Now that I know more about nature, I notice it everywhere. A reassuring feeling.

I am no expert, but there is something really fun about sharing the learning journey with others :D
